Education is the process of facilitating learning. Knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits of a group of people are transferred to other people, through storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, or research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves in a process called autodidactic learning. Any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational.
Education is commonly and formally divided into stages such as preschool, primary school, secondary school and then college, university or apprenticeship. The methodology of teaching is called pedagogy.

| 14 | Stanley Halls And Former Stanley Technical Trade Schools, South Norwood Hill Stanley Halls and Former Stanley Technical Trade Schools, South Norwood Hill "The most memorable buildings in South Norwood", wrote Pevsner, not that there is much competition. They are the product of local industralist, inventor and philanthropist, W.F.R. Stanley, who paid for, designed and built them in 1902-09. Brick and stone, with eclectic motifs, including copper flowers in flowerpots on the roofs. Grade II listed. The Technical School (foreground) is now part of a city academy, the Harris Academy, from whose name all reference to Stanley was controversially dropped. The Stanley Halls (beyond the second tower) is a venue for various social functions. Controversy abounds here as Stanley's house, Cumberlow Lodge, which used to stand behind the school, was demolished by developers in 2006 pending an application for it to be listed.
