Stanley Halls and Former Stanley Technical Trade Schools, South Norwood Hill.jpg

Stanley Halls and Former Stanley Technical Trade Schools, South Norwood Hill "The most memorable buildings in South Norwood", wrote Pevsner, not that there is much competition. They are the product of local industralist, inventor and philanthropist, W.F.R. Stanley, who paid for, designed and built them in 1902-09. Brick and stone, with eclectic motifs, including copper flowers in flowerpots on the roofs. Grade II listed.

The Technical School (foreground) is now part of a city academy, the Harris Academy, from whose name all reference to Stanley was controversially dropped. The Stanley Halls (beyond the second tower) is a venue for various social functions.
Controversy abounds here as Stanley's house, Cumberlow Lodge, which used to stand behind the school, was demolished by developers in 2006 pending an application for it to be listed.
